Buckie Thistle produced another toothless display at Princess Royal Park to draw with Deveronvale and fall nine points behind leaders Brechin City.
The Jags missed a catalogue of chances against a determined home side, who could even have grabbed a late winner on the break as Buckie piled everyone forward in search of the breakthrough.
The only change from the victory over Brechin in midweek saw Cohen Ramsay replace Hamish Munro at left back.
Jack MacIver brought a fine save from Sean McIntosh with the first chance of the match, after a good run from midfield and a one-two with Josh Peters.
Max Barry then drove an opportunity into the side netting from a tight angle on the right of the penalty area, after another good touch from Peters released the Jags number eight.
Peters fired over the bar after captain Sam Pugh’s tackle in midfield deflected the ball over the top for the Jags number nine.
Ryan Fyffe headed over from a MacIver corner on 16 minutes, then Peters did well to turn on a cross from the left and get in a low shot that was well held by McIntosh.
Andrew MacAskill set up Max Barry on the edge of the penalty area, but his effort went well over the bar, before Lyall Keir did exactly the same with his effort just before the break, after latching onto a pass from Ramsay.
Scott Adams replaced Josh Peters up front at half time after he got a knock in the first half.
It was Adams who came closest to the opener when he won the ball in the penalty area and drove a shot just wide of the far post.
Adams then missed a great chance when he knocked Joe McCabe’s superb cross from the right straight at McIntosh from close range.
Jamie MacLellan missed a good chance for Vale on 55 minutes, heading over the top when free from Harry Noble’s free kick.
McIntosh made a tremendous save from MacAskill’s stinging volley from 15 yards, before Innes McKay did superbly to hook the ball off the line as it spun towards the net.
On 68 minutes the home keeper saved Keir’s low shot after a good driving run, then Jack Murray was next to try his luck with a left-foot shot that he dragged wide of the right hand post.
Barry then had another shot deflected and saved by McIntosh with time running out for the visitors.
Ryan Park missed a golden chance to win it for Vale when they broke well and the ball was squared to him in acres of space, but he could only pull his shot wide of the left post from 14 yards.
Murray had a header pushed away by McIntosh, who followed that up with another flying save from Ryan Fyffe’s rising drive.
In injury time, Barry’s cross from the left bounced beyond everyone and came off the crossbar with McIntosh beaten, and the visitors’ last chance was gone.
A hugely frustrating afternoon for the Jags, who once again follow up an impressive victory in midweek by dropping points on the Saturday.
Bottom club Strathspey Thistle are next up for Thistle at Victoria Park in midweek.
