Goals from Lyall Keir and Ryan Fyffe in the remaining five minutes of the first half had put the home side in front, after Ryan Campbell fired Academy ahead early on.

Buckie boss Lewis MacKinnon named the same side that won at Huntly last time out, with the returning Darryl McHardy amongst the substitutes.

Keir was played clean through by Andrew MacAskill's superb through ball in the seventh minute, but Wick custodian Graeme Williamson saved well and Keir fired right across the face of goal from the rebound.

Wick took the lead three minutes later, Campbell latching onto a poor header clear from a corner and crashing the ball past Mark Ridgers at the far post.

Marcus Goodall almost found an instant reply for the Jags, winning the ball just inside the penalty area, but his shot was deflected wide for a corner.

Gordon MacNab released the returning David Allan in behind the home defence on 22 minutes, his low effort from 14 yards going just wide of Ridgers’ right hand post.

Decent build up play from Joe McCabe and Jack MacIver then set up MacAskill, who dragged his left-foot effort just wide from 22 yards.

Buckie found an equaliser in the 41st minute. MacIver lifted a pass in behind for Keir, and he sent a delicate chip over Williamson and in off the far post.

Four minutes later, McCabe powered a header against the post from MacIver’s corner, and Fyffe was in the right place to poke the ball home from four yards and put Thistle ahead at the break.

In the 49th minute, Innes McKay switched a great ball out to McCabe on the right flank, he fired in a great cross and Keir stretched every sinew to get a volley on target, but it was saved by Williamson.

MacIver’s dangerous near post corner was punched away by Williamson, then McCabe headed over the bar from another MacIver corner from the right.

MacIver then released MacAskill down the right and his searching cross just missed the incoming Fyffe and was scrambled clear by the visiting defence.

Keir brought another fine save from Williamson with a deflected shot after latching onto MacAskill’s flick on, then Owen Harrold blocked Jags captain Sam Pugh’s blistering volley from the edge of the penalty area.

On 75 minutes, Cohen Ramsay swung in another good cross and MacAskill’s near post header was deflected just wide, then another excellent ball in from substitute Craig Cormack was headed straight at Williamson at the far post by Ramsay.

Another sub Dale Wood swept a decent strike just wide from outside the penalty area with time running out.

In the 89th minute, Jags failed to deal with a ball over the top and Ridgers was booked for handling the ball outside his area. Henderson stepped up to crash a stunning free kick into the top right hand corner from 28 yards to give Wick a share of the spoils.

A frustrating end to a much better second half for the home side, who recovered well from a poor start to the match, but needed to press home the advantage when on top for the majority of that second period.

A derby date with Deveronvale at Princess Royal Park is next up on Saturday for the Jags.
